Weird Al Has Hilarious Reaction to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Moana Costume

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s look as Maui in Disney’s upcoming live-action film Moana draws a hilarious reaction from Weird Al.

On Monday, March 23, Disney released the first official trailer for the live-action version of the animated classic, Moana. The trailer revealed Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s look as the demigod, Maui. However, Johnson’s look has received mixed reviews from fans, and comedy musician “Weird Al” Yankovic has also shared his reaction.

On his Instagram account, Weird Al hilariously pointed out that The Rock’s look as Maui has a striking resemblance to him.

“We’ve told all the casting agents that the Weird Al biopic sequel is currently on hold, but they just keep sending in headshots,” he posted.

However, he wasn’t the only one who saw the resemblance, as a fan posted a hilarious tweet, saying that The Rock has replaced Daniel Radcliffe in the sequel to the 2022 biographical musical parody film, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

“‘He’s back… And this time, he’s mad.’ Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson replaces Danielle Radcliff as ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic in the first official look at ‘Weird II'” he said.

The Rock reveals the main challenge of the live-action Maui costume in Moana

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and director Thomas Kail spoke about the work that went into transforming the WWE legend into the real-life Maui, starting with the character’s hair.

“We knew that it had to be something that could have real lift to it,” Kail said of the wig Johnson wears in the movie. “Because you’re doing this on the water, ‘what does it look like wet?’ is a real conversation when you’re making Moana. That one weighs seven pounds more with all the water in it for all those hours a day.”

The Rock also revealed that he had to wear 40 pounds of prosthetics to play the role.

“The thing that became a challenge, that I had to work through very quickly, that I didn’t anticipate was the prosthetics and the hair and then the body. That is an additional 40 pounds on you,” The Rock said. “There’s a freedom when you perform, whether it’s as an actor or singing. So that was an adjustment on how to actually work my emotions through the 40 pounds of prosthetics and hair and body that I had on me.”
