An old video of John Cena sharing his views on transgender wrestlers has resurfaced on social media.
Back in 2018, TMZ asked John Cena about his thoughts on intergender wrestling. The interview was filmed around the time of WWE Mixed Match Challenge and ahead of Ronda Rousey’s high-profile WrestleMania in-ring debut.
TMZ then asked Cena if WWE was ready for a transgender wrestler. The then 16-time World Champion responded: “I’m a storyteller, my friend — and that’s what we do in WWE. It’s not segregated by sex, race, creed, religion, any of that — so as long as the story’s good, it belongs in WWE.”
John Cena retired from in-ring competition at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event in 2025. He is set to host WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium later this month. Cena recently expressed his excitement on the upcoming debuts of Trick Williams, Oba Femi, Stephanie Vaquer, Je’Von Evans, and Lash Legend at the Showcase of the Immortals.
“Since retirement I’ve met so many wonderful people who’ve shared with me that they saw my first WrestleMania match … and my last. I’m so excited to be able to say ‘I was there!’ for the WM debuts of this incredible group! @LashLegendWWE @WWEJeVonEvans @_trickwilliams @Obaofwwe @Steph_Vaquer,” Cena posted on X.
WrestleZone will provide live coverage of WWE WrestleMania 42 on April 18 and 19.
