It seems like Brock Lesnar is calling it quits.
Lesnar took on Oba Femi in the opening match of night two of WrestleMania 42. Femi picked up a surprising win, but what happened after the match was even more of a shocker.
Brock Lesnar sat up and looked at the ceiling, then took his gloves off, which got an audible gasp from the crowd. Lesnar hesitated, but went on to take his boots off and lay them in the middle of the ring. Brock kissed the mat and embraced Paul Heyman, seemingly indicating he was retiring.
Lesnar then got a huge ovation from fans as we waved to them and left with Heyman.
Based on WWE’s phrasing, we could hear some kind of clarification from Lesnar in the near future. However, it seems like Lesnar just had his final WrestleMania match, if not his final match ever.
Brock Lesnar’s WWE retirement has been expected
For months, it’s been rumored that Brock Lesnar was going to retire this year. Many expected it to happen at SummerSlam, which takes place in Minneapolis, Lesnar’s former hometown. During a recent interview on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, John Cena teased that the Beast Incarnate could “ride into the sunset” in Minnesota.
“I’ve been in this seat before. It’s like I’m always in the seat when Brock comes back, Rock after Miami, who’s the next guy? SummerSlam with Roman, here he comes again. After he beats Taker for the streak, I’ve sat in this seat before. You have to figure out who gets the shine that night and if, in his return again, only my perspective. This attraction where we are going to build until he goes into the sunset, which is, I think, in Minnesota? Creatively, it’s very soon. To create a mountain to climb for someone, you have to build the mountain,” Cena said about Brock Lesnar.
During an appearance on the Spittin Chiclets podcast, Lesnar also teased that he’s only back for a “short time.”
“Sh*t, I went back to work so I could feed my kids. You guys should see my grocery bill. I had left the company years ago, and I’m grateful that I’m back for a short time here so, I’m really grateful for all the opportunities that I’ve had in my life,” Brock Lesnar said.
