Roman Reigns is once again on top of WWE and this time, it feels like a new chapter is just beginning.
Reigns defeated CM Punk in the WrestleMania 42 main event to become a seven-time world champion. The match went long and intense throughout the night. In the end, Reigns hit back-to-back Spears to secure the win.
After that, he celebrated in the ring with his family. Now, WWE already has big plans for the new champion, as they are reportedly looking at a match between Roman Reigns and Gunther.
WWE eyeing Roman Reigns vs Gunther for huge showdown
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared future plans, which was accurate as of this past week.
“The plan is Roman Reigns as champion against Gunther. That was as of a week ago, midweek even. I don’t think it’s for Backlash, maybe SummerSlam, maybe something else. The only thing I was told is that Roman Reigns and Gunther was, as of like a week ago, a big direction that they thought was a big-time major match.” [H/T: f4wonline]
Gunther is coming off a huge win as well. He defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42 Night One, which keeps his momentum strong. Reigns and Gunther have not had a singles match yet, which makes it fresh. However, they did cross paths earlier this year.
At the Royal Rumble, Reigns eliminated Gunther to win the match. WWE is clearly setting up something major here. And if it happens, it could define the next phase of the title scene.
