MJF officially agreed to put his hair on the line against Darby Allin during the May 13 episode of AEW Dynamite. However, it didn’t come forward in a straightforward manner. The contract signing quickly spiraled into violence before the show went off the air.
The agreement finalized the high-stakes AEW World Championship match for Double or Nothing, where either Allin leaves without the title or MJF leaves without his signature hair.
The unusual stipulation stemmed from Allin mocking MJF’s vanity after previously defending the AEW World Championship against Kevin Knight. Allin told MJF the only way he would receive another title shot was by risking his hair, even referencing MJF’s reported hair transplant trip to Turkey.
Before the contract signing, MJF also endured backstage taunts involving multiple bald men backstage workers, along with jokes from Ricochet and Tommaso Ciampa. Safe to say AEW turned Dynamite into a full-blown follicle feud.
Darby Allin retains the AEW World title before MJF snaps on Dynamite
The contract signing only happened after Allin successfully retained the AEW World Championship against Konosuke Takeshita in the Dynamite main event. Allin survived a grueling title defense and retained with back-to-back Coffin Drops before immediately calling MJF to the ring.
The segment quickly turned tense as fans showered MJF with “Bald!” chants while he repeatedly hesitated to sign the contract. The former AEW World Champion then launched a lengthy verbal tirade, dismissing Allin’s legacy and claiming he would become a three-time world champion at Double or Nothing.
Allin fired back by accusing MJF of caring only about legacy and demanded he sign the contract so he could make him a “bald-headed bitch.” With the crowd chanting along, MJF finally signed the deal.
However, moments later, Friedman blindsided the exhausted champion with grounded punches before loading up the Dynamite Diamond Ring and dropping Allin with a knockout shot. MJF nearly delivered an avalanche Tombstone Piledriver in the corner before Knight sprinted to the ring and stopped the assault.
The chaotic ending officially set the stage for one of AEW’s most personal championship matches heading into Double or Nothing.
