Tony Khan Forced to Adjust AEW’s Owen Hart Tournament Plans Due to Injuries

The women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament is already dealing with some unexpected changes before the first round has even fully begun. Tony Khan recently confirmed that injuries have forced AEW to adjust parts of the original tournament schedule.

During the media call for ROH Supercard of Honor 2026, Khan revealed the status of Persephone and Sareee after fans started wondering if either wrestler would still compete in the tournament.

Tony Khan says injuries delayed Owen Hart Tournament matches

AEW revealed the women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament brackets on this week’s episode of Dynamite. However, fans noticed that both Persephone and Sareee were still included despite recent injury updates involving the two stars.

Earlier this month, Khan announced that Persephone was sidelined indefinitely and would miss Supercard of Honor because of an injury. Around the same time, Sareee revealed that she would be stepping away from wrestling for about a month to deal with her neck issue.

That immediately caused confusion about the tournament brackets. This became especially pertinent Sareee was announced for a first-round match against Skye Blue on Dynamite. The situation became even more unclear when it was later announced that Sareee had been pulled from an upcoming Korakuen Hall show while recovering from her neck issue.

Despite all the concerns, Khan confirmed during the media call that both women would likely compete in the tournament. However, he explained that their matches will likely happen later in the schedule, probably sometime in June.

The currently announced first-round matches are:

  • Persephone vs. Hazuki
  • Willow Nightingale vs. Alex Windsor
  • Mina Shirakawa vs. Athena
  • Skye Blue vs. Sareee

Out of those matches, Willow Nightingale vs. Alex Windsor has already been confirmed for AEW Double or Nothing 2026 on May 24.
