Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is doing fine, but there was a brief period where he worried that he had testicular cancer.
Esquire‘s Ryan D’Agostino spoke with Johnson in a wide-ranging interview, including how he recently had a cancer scare. According to Johnson, he recently felt a lump on one of his testicles while he was showering. It hurt when he touched it, and despite his hopes that it would get better, it got more painful through the weekend.
Johnson didn’t even tell his wife, and had to worry about getting through a massive press campaign for his latest Jumanji movie.
“I didn’t even tell Lauren,” Johnson said of Lauren Hashian, his wife of seven years. “I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.”
“By the way: I’m fine,” he added. “But I didn’t know that then, and the thing was really painful.”
Johnson’s doctor ordered an ultrasound to find out what was really going on
Johnson says his doctor thought it might be epididymitis, an inflammation of the coiled tube that stores sperm at the back of the testicle.
Johnson had to get through promoting Jumanji and got an ultrasound the next day. However, the next 24 hours weren’t exactly easy on him.
“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,” Johnson said. “But! I’m okay. So.”
Jumanji: Open World is officially scheduled to release in theaters in the United States on Christmas Day 2026.
