AJ Styles has high hopes for Chad Gable’s future in WWE. The Hall of Famer recently shared his excitement about Gable’s character change following the end of the El Grande Americano storyline.
Gable has been in the spotlight since losing a Mask vs. Mask match at AAA Noche de los Grandes. While the loss ended his run as El Grande Americano, it also opened the door to a fresh start.
Since then, Gable has returned to RAW and SmackDown, standing up for luchadores and attempting to make amends for his past actions. Styles recently stated that Gable is at the peak of his popularity and believes WWE should capitalize on his momentum with a major push.
Now, with Gable embracing a more heroic role, Styles is eager to see where the story goes next.
AJ Styles is excited about Chad Gable’s new WWE direction
Speaking on The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, Styles discussed Gable’s recent appearance on RAW, where he returned Rey Mysterio’s mask and helped save both Mysterio and Penta from an attack by Ethan Page and Rusev.
He said, “So we’ve seen Chad Gable come back. He gave Rey Mysterio his mask back and kind of saved both him and Penta. I thought it was really freaking cool. That’s where I want to see it go. I want to see Chad be a bigger star. He’s obviously a babyface based on the fact that he admitted that he’s not the El Grande Americano. He is not him anymore. I think it’s cool. I’m really excited about where this is going.”
Styles agreed with host Tony Giles, saying Gable’s success was only a matter of time. “It was only a matter of time. There’s hills and valleys, highs and lows, stuff that we have to deal with. Trust me, he has definitely went through it.”
He continued, “I think the best thing that ever happened to him was probably the worst thing he thought was happening to him at that time. I’m sure Shorty G was probably the worst thing that ever happened to him, at least he thought at that time. But we were able to get past that and doing the El Grande Americano. … I’m happy for him. This is good stuff.” [H/T: Fightful]
