Cody Rhodes Explains Why He Loves This Controversial Star Wars Movie

WWE‘s Cody Rhodes explains why he loves Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Released in 2017, Star Wars: The Last Jedi became polarizing among fans, with some sharing favorable reviews while others believe it ruined the franchise. IGN ranked the Star Wars movies in honor of May the 4th last month, and reigning Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes’ take on it, while old, got more traction over the weekend.

Replying to the ranking, Cody Rhodes noted that he’d swap the seventh (Revenge of the Sith) and fifth (Rogue One) entries. The Last Jedi ranked fourth on the list, and when a fan asked him if he was okay with the movie ranking that high, Rhodes said he’s fine with it and explained that his reason is personal and oddly wrestling-related.

Cody Rhodes explained that he loves The Last Jedi for showing Luke as a tired, broken old man with one last real punch left in him. He then connected it to wrestling legend Terry Funk, who reinvented himself multiple times and continued to compete in the ring way past his prime until retiring at 73 in 2017. The WWE Hall of Famer passed away in August 2023.

“I love it. LOVE. But my reason is fairly personal and oddly wrestling related. When these legends come back, they’re not the same. Didn’t want Luke with dyed hair and an 8 pack doing flips…I got a broken old man with one last real punch in him. But it was a helluva punch. Kinda’ like Funk. May the 4th be with you!” Cody Rhodes wrote.

Cody Rhodes is set for an Undisputed WWE Championship defence against Gunther this Friday on SmackDown. Sami Zayn will be the special guest referee.
