Former WWE Superstar Layla reveals the influence CM Punk had on her and Michelle McCool’s gimmick.
During her recent appearance on the INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet podcast, former WWE Divas Champion Layla confirmed that CM Punk gave her and Michelle McCool the team name LayCool. She recalled a company executive telling them they needed a name after working together for too long.
Layla noted that she and Michelle McCool were brainstorming names and came up with Cool-Lay. CM Punk, who was hanging out at the arena, happened to be in the right place at the right time and ended up talking to them and suggesting the name LayCool.
“Yeah, he did. He wasn’t even part of the conversation. That’s what’s so funny about it. Because Johnny or somebody, I can’t remember, was like, ‘Guys, you need a name? You’ve been together too long now, it’s getting ridiculous. You need a name.’ Punk was hanging out at the arena, and he just was like, ‘What are you guys doing?’ We had a piece of paper, and we were trying to write something. We’re like, we’re trying to think of a name. And then we were Cool-Lay, it was so stupid. And then he’s like, ‘LayCool?’ Then we’re like, yeah, that’s it. Punk just happened to be there. We were just in the corridor, I don’t know, just happened.”
In the same interview, Layla explained why she’s ruling out an in-ring return, and also revealed why she turned down a lucrative Playboy offer back in 2007.
