Mike Santana comments on his future amid rumors about his TNA contract and WWE interest.
Recent reports indicated that TNA World Champion Mike Santana’s contract with the promotion will be up by mid-July, and that WWE is interested in signing him. Former World Tag Team Champion Matt Hardy also said he wouldn’t be shocked to see him leave TNA for WWE.
Amid all the speculation, Santana opened up about his future while speaking to Celebrate Wrestling‘s Mike McGuire. He noted that he’s thankful for everything he accomplished and for all the opportunities TNA Wrestling gave him over the past two years, and said he won’t take any of it for granted.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity that TNA gave me the last two years as far as being able to reinvent myself and rebuild myself. Just looking back on these last two years, I’ve been able to accomplish a lot of things and do a lot of great things. I don’t take it for granted, and being a part of why the company is where we’re at today and having this new TV deal and all this stuff and just being on the forefront of that, it feels great, and it’s something that I take very serious,” Mike Santana said.
Mike Santana will go ‘anywhere’ he gets opportunities to grow
Addressing his future, Mike Santana said that growth has been a vital part of his life. While he didn’t comment on the WWE rumors, he said he’s open to going “anywhere” there are opportunities to grow. He also wants to show his daughter there are levels to what he does, and to live by his father’s words: “The top of one mountain is the bottom of another.”
“As far as the future goes, I’m the type that growth is part of my life, and I feel like if there’s an opportunity for me to grow, then that’s what I’m going to do, whether it’s at TNA or anywhere. For me, if you’re not growing in this business, then what are you doing? If you’re not trying to progress in this business, then what are we doing?” Santana continued.
“At the end of the day, I need to show my daughter that there’s levels to this. And also my dad used to always say the top of one mountain is the bottom of another. So keep climbing,” Santana concluded.
Mike Santana will defend the TNA World Championship against Nic Nemeth at Slammiversary this Sunday. The result of the match could provide a hint about his future with the promotion.
