WWE Names the 10 Greatest Steel Cage Matches of All Time

WWE has officially revealed what it considers the 10 greatest Steel Cage matches in company history.

The ranking was unveiled during the Countdown to WWE Night of Champions pre-show ahead of tonight’s premium live event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

WWE’s top 10 Steel Cage matches are as follows:

  1. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar – Greatest Royal Rumble (2018)
  2. Becky Lynch vs. Trish Stratus – Payback (2023)
  3. The Undertaker vs. Batista – SmackDown (2007)
  4. Bret Hart vs. Diesel – In Your House (1996)
  5. CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy – SmackDown (2009)
  6. Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka vs. Don Muraco – Madison Square Garden (1983)
  7. Bray Wyatt vs. John Cena – Extreme Rules (2014)
  8. Randy Orton vs. Triple H – Judgment Day (2008)
  9. Lita vs. Victoria – RAW (2003)
  10. Hulk Hogan vs. Big Boss Man – Saturday Night’s Main Event (1989)

While the list spans multiple eras of WWE history, it notably lacks several acclaimed Steel Cage matches. Perhaps the most surprising omission is Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart from SummerSlam 1994. The sibling rivalry culminated in a critically acclaimed Steel Cage Match that is widely considered one of the greatest cage matches in professional wrestling history. Based on WWE’s rankings, however, it is safe to assume the company does not view it as one of its top 10 Steel Cage matches.

The rankings arrive before another Steel Cage Match headlines the conversation. Later tonight at WWE Night of Champions in Riyadh, Bron Breakker will go one-on-one with Seth Rollins inside the steel structure in one of the marquee matches on the card. Whether that contest eventually earns a place on WWE’s list remains to be seen.
