Michael Cole Teases Long-Term WWE Plan For Sami Zayn After Title Loss

Sami Zayn’s WWE Undisputed Championship reign ended much sooner than expected.

Zayn won his first world title at WWE Night of Champions. He defeated Cody Rhodes and Gunther in a Triple Threat Match. Many fans expected him to carry the title into SummerSlam. Instead, his reign ended on WWE RAW in just nine days.

CM Punk defeated Zayn in a surprise title match. Cody Rhodes was originally scheduled for the championship bout. However, Gunther attacked Rhodes backstage before the show. That forced Zayn into an unexpected title defense in Punk’s hometown of Chicago.

Michael Cole asks WWE fans to be patient with Sami Zayn’s story

Speaking on The Sal Licata Show, Michael Cole addressed Zayn’s recent title loss. He urged fans to stay patient because WWE has bigger plans ahead.

“I always ask our viewers to have patience because there’s a long-term story arc with Sami that is going to be playing out now over the fact that he lost his championship.”

He said WWE tells stories across the entire year. Because of that, not every storyline moves quickly.

“And we always ask our viewers to just try to be patient because we are going to get there. We do 52 weeks of television for Monday Night Raw, and the same thing with SmackDown. You know, every single year.”

“It’s live TV every week. So sometimes storylines might not progress as fast as our audience wants them to. And, listen, [the] audience can have all the views they want. We can’t do this without them, you know, and be critical about it. Voice your opinions about it, but I really think people are going to enjoy where the Sami Zayn story is going to go over the next couple of weeks.”
