Tony Khan has cleared up the recent rumors about Sammy Guevara’s status in the company. According to Khan, exit speculation popped up due to a misunderstanding and not because anything had changed behind the scenes.
The rumors started after Guevara posted “New bio” on X (formerly Twitter). Fans noticed that his profile didn’t mention AEW. They assumed he had removed the company from his bio because he was planning to leave.
Speaking during the AEW Redemption media call, Khan admitted he was surprised that so many people jumped to that conclusion over a simple social media update.

During the media call, Khan was asked about AEW’s approach to free agents before the conversation shifted to Sammy Guevara.
Khan made it clear that nothing has changed regarding Guevara’s role in AEW or Ring of Honor. He said Guevara remains an important part of both companies, especially as one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions. Although Guevara has been appearing more often in ROH recently, Khan said that doesn’t mean his position in AEW has changed.
Khan also explained why Guevara and his tag team partner, Beast Mortos, had been wrestling in CMLL. He said that Beast Mortos had visa issues that limited his appearances in AEW. To keep both wrestlers active, Khan personally recommended them to CMLL, believing they would be a good fit there.
The team went on to defend the ROH World Tag Team Titles several times at Arena México before eventually losing them to Máscara Dorada and Místico.
Khan also addressed the claim that Guevara had removed AEW from his X profile.
“As I understand it, when Sammy changed his bio, I don’t think he ever had AEW in it in the first place, so I don’t think it was any negative change. I got a nice message from Sammy saying he wasn’t trying to do anything bad and that he loves AEW, and I believe that. Sammy has been a good wrestler for us in AEW and ROH. He’s a great talent and a very good person. I don’t think he meant anything by it. And it seemed like people jumped on him for something he didn’t even do. Certainly, just messing around with a Twitter bio…it’s pretty amazing how people jump to conclusions but also jump on him, and in my opinion, unfairly target him,” Khan said.
