Ricky Saints had his eyes set on the prize, and he accomplished his goal tonight.
During NXT’s No Mercy event, Saints beat reigning NXT Champion Oba Femi to be crowned the new champion. In an excellent match, the pair of stars went back-and-forth all night. However, Saints finally did enough to get the upper hand. Saints won by countering a move by Femi while on top of the announcer’s table, then dropped Femi down onto it.
Back in the ring, Saints and Femi grappled for more control, and Saints reversed a pop-up powerbomb into a massive spike DDT. Saints then hit another DDT on Femi, this time from off the ropes, and that was it. After the win, Saints celebrated as the crowd cheered him on.
The title win is Saints’ second since he arrived in NXT earlier this year, but his first run as NXT Champion. Previously, he was NXT North American Championship. It’s currently unclear what the loss means for Femi, and whether or not he’ll be making the move to WWE as a result.
