WWE NXT Results:
And NEW!
The new NXT Women’s North American Champion, Zaria, says she spent so much time in Sol Ruca’s shadow that she forgot what the sun looked like. But now, she’s the one holding the championship, and the future is in her hands. She’s tired of hearing that everyone else is the future of this business. Zaria owes none of us gratitude. Kelani Jordan interrupts.
Jordan tells Zaria she doesn’t have the title Jordan wants, but she has some advice for Zaria. The people chanting for you now will turn on you later. Kendall Grey is out next. Everyone argues. Lola Vice joins the party. More arguing. Zaria is upset that everyone is making a moment about her. NXT GM Mr. Stone walks out, but before he can speak, the ladies in the ring book the tag match for him.
Grade: C
More of the same here. The promo segments for the women in NXT follow the same formula, and for someone who watches this show every week, it’s becoming a bit much.
NXT North American Championship no. 1 Contender Match | Tavion Heights vs. Jackson Drake
Drake and Heights go back and forth. The Vanity Project keeps interfering. Heights manages to belly-to-belly suplex Drake over the top onto the Vanity Project. NXT North American Champion Myles Borne runs in and pulls Smokes and Baylor out of the ring before they can get involved once again. Drake walks right into Height of Glory. Heights pins Drake
Winner- Tavion Heights
Grade: C+
Fun TV match. Heights suplexes are insane. It’s like Kurt Angle and Taz had a baby. Eww.
WWE Women’s Speed Championship Tournament First Round match | Izzi Dame vs. Thea Hail
Dame pins Hail after a running knee strike.
Winner- Izzie Dame
Grade: C
Speed matches… right?
Jaida Parker vs. Nattie
Parker and Nattie tear into each other, trading takedowns and strikes. Parker and Nattie trade counters, each leading to a different submission attempt. Parker locks Nattie in a modified double armbar. Nattie gets to the ropes to break the hold. Nattie starts working on Parker’s legs. After a double clothesline spot outside the ring, both women are down. After the break, Nattie traps Parker in the sharpshooter. Parker struggles and almost breaks the hold, but is forced to tap out.
Winner- Nattie
Grade: B
This match was more than solid. Parker continues to evolve in the ring, showing some tight submissions, counters, and transitions, as she did her best to meet Nattie on her level. This proved not to be enough, and having Parker tap here was definitely a choice, but it will all work out in the end if this ends with Parker leveling up.
WWE Women’s Speed Championship Tournament First Round Match | Layla Diggs vs. Arianna Grace
After a distraction from Birthright, Grace manages to roll Diggs up for the win.
Winner- Arianna Grace
Grade: C+
Speed matches… right?
Lola Vice and Kendall Grey vs. Zaria and Kelani Jordan
Zaria and Jordan are in control early. Grey runs into a high knee from Zaria. Grey gets singled out, and struggles to make the tag. Vice manages to get the tag and clears the ring. Zaria clobbers Jordan after getting a blind tag. The fight spills out of the ring. Grey tags back in Zaria goes for Seek and Destroy. Grey reverses it into an armbar. Zaria powerbombs Grey to break the hold. Vice breaks up the pin. Jordan and Vice boot each other in the face. Everyone is down.
Zaria sees Tatum Paxley in the crowd. The fight spills out of the ring. Vice drops Zaria with Welcome to Vice City for the win.
Winners- Lola Vice and Kendall Grey
After the match, Paxley attacks Zaria. Jordan rips the NXT women’s Championship out of Vice’s hands. Grey tries to snatch it back, but ends up accidentally hitting Vice in the head with the title.
Grade: B
Great tag match. Tons of great action, high flying, and submissions in this one. So many storylines interconnecting in this one… matches always mean more when there are stories behind the action. Sucks to see Zaria eat a pin here, but in reality, this writer shouldn’t be surprised. Even in giving her the big title win, Zaria keeps catching Ls.
