Rick Recon: Dave LaGreca Loves Pro Wrestling And He’s Up For Anything, I Wish There Were More Like Him

Rick Recon is appreciative of getting to pick the brain of the leader of the Busted Open Nation.

WrestleZone recently spoke with Rick Recon, who will be in action at ISPW’s Christmas Chaos 2 event on December 9. Recon has been managed by Dave LaGreca in the promotion, and Recon spoke about being in the history books for a distinct honor.

“He’s been pretty loyal to me. He’s always putting me over on Busted Open. He’s always out there being hype man. Dave’s fantastic. Fun fact—back on the October 29 show, he was involved in his very first actual wrestling match,” Recon noted, “a tag team match with myself and him against The Now. So that’ll be for the history books if you look up, ‘Dave LaGreca’s first and possibly only match,’ I’m involved in it.”

Recon went on to pull the curtain back a bit and said it’s been great working with LaGreca, citing his passion for the wrestling business. Recon said that some people forget the wrestling business is fan-driven, but LaGreca reminds him of that often.

“It’s been incredibly fun working with him. He is always up for anything. He’s a really good guy, and he loves professional wrestling. You can tell this guy is an absolute fan of the products that he works for. It’s interesting because, yes, he is involved in the wrestling business, he is also very much a fan. So a lot of times, I like to listen to him. I like to listen to his opinions because a lot of time, wrestlers, workers, we tend to forget a lot of times this is for the fans. And often times we forget their perspective. So it’s always good talking to a guy like him who, again, is very much a fan, being able to get his feedback and kinda see things through his eyes or through the lenses he sees through. His energy is really what it is because anytime he’s out there or anytime he’s on a mic—cutting a promo or ripping somebody a new one—he is fully into it. He is all in, and I wish there were more people like that.

“A lot of people half-ass things, whether it’s in-ring, promo, whatever it is, but he goes all out. So to me, I’m like, ‘I have to match that then.’ So that right there is invaluable then to learn from that. It’s really not something a lot of guys get to do with someone that is that high-profile of a guy to say, ‘Hey, listen, I’ve been managed by Dave LaGreca. It’s really not a lot of guys that can say that. Just me and Danny Doring, that’s really it. I really love seeing that. Because he’s a friend of mine, I love seeing my friend’s success. There’s a lot of people that I see in this business where they’ll be happy for their friends, but they don’t wanna see their friends do better than them. That’s an unfortunate thing that a lot of us deal with, but I see him. He got to do the NXT pre-show for Halloween Havoc, and any of his successes, I’m happy to see it because he is such a good guy, and it’s extremely well-deserved.”

Recon went on to note that it’s nice to see talent finding success on a larger level, pointing to tri-state guys like The Acclaimed and MJF as good examples. He said that it’s exciting to see talent from all walks finding the spotlight now, and he can be happy for them from a worker and fan perspective.
