Rey Mysterio has opened up about the core theme of his Cartoon Network animated series, Rey Mysterio vs. La Oscuridad (translated to Rey Mysterio vs. The Darkness) and what inspired it.
Speaking at a WWE World Q&A panel moderated by comedian Gabriel Iglesias (Fluffy) during WrestleMania weekend, the WWE Hall of Famer explained the core theme of the show before putting over the creators, Los Hermanos Calavera (The Skull Brothers).
“… the fact that on the show itself, we honor it, we attribute the history of Mexico, the history of lucha libre…as much as we can,” Mysterio said. “But these guys have been just incredible. Their vision, their work, has been unbelievable. And they have so much more to display.”
One of the Los Hermanos trios chimed in by saying the animated series represented their love for Mexico, lucha libre and Rey Mysterio.
“The origin of all of it, we think, is our love for Mexico, for lucha libre, for Rey Mysterio. And it was really important that, that came through in everything we did. So the show takes place in Mexico City, not the FA Mexico City, because that’s where we grew up, right? But there’s no yellow filter like Hollywood tends to put on everything that’s Mexican, right? It’s colorful, it’s bright because that’s what Mexico City and all Mexico is.”
Rey Mysterio vs. The Darkness has aired one season so far, which consisted of ten episodes.
Rey Mysterio Confirms What Type Of Injury Kept Him Off Of WWE WrestleMania 41
Rey Mysterio was originally announced to take on El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41. Unfortunately, the lWO leader was injured during a six-man tag team match an episode of SmackDown in the lead-up to WrestleMania.
Mysterio confirmed during Sunday’s appearance at WWE World he was dealing with a groin injury, but he did not go into detail about how severe the injury is, or how much in-ring time he will miss.
WWE booked Rey Fenix as Rey Mysterio’s replacement for his singles match against El Grande Americano at WrestleMania. Fans can check out the complete match result here.
