This TNA star thinks very highly of former NXT Champion Oba Femi.
The Ruler recently shocked the world of NXT by relinquishing his NXT Championship in the ring, signaling his official call-up to the WWE main roster. In a recent interview, Leon Slater spoke about being in the ring for Femi’s last NXT match.
Speaking to Joey Karni in a recent interview (via Fightful), Slater opened up about the match. It came together after Slater challenged Femi to a match, and while Slater lost, it would prove to be the final time Femi appeared in the world of NXT as of now. Slater said that being the one to be part of the overall story for Femi was a “super cool” moment.
“I think it’s no secret he is a very, very special talent and I think he’s going to be a legend in the coming years and he’s going to be a big player in the WWE,” said Slater. “So for me to have that kind of spotlight match against him where if you go back and look at Oba Femi’s run you’ll have the first match, the match where he won the North American Title, you’ll have the match where he won the NXT Title, and you’ll have his last match. To be on one of those key points for such a talent like Oba Femi is super cool for sure.”
While Femi looks to move on in the world of WWE, Slater is also a growing star in the world of TNA. Currently the reigning TNA X Division Champion, Slater has been appearing on episodes of NXT since October.
