Some fans might believe Seth Rollins is a wrestling god. Rollins also once wrestled as God.
The new season of Netflix’s WWE Unreal series features Seth Rollins being introduced by all of the names he has been known as. The list shows Tyler Black, Taj The Destroyer, Gixx, God, and Colby Daniel Lopez, the latter being his birth name.
Some fans couldn’t believe “Gixx” was one of the selections. This was reportedly inspired by a Magic: The Gathering character named Gix. Others shared their surprise about Rollins choosing God as a ring name. The WWE star has been known in some circles as Crossfit Jesus, and he also has another religious link thanks to his “Messiah” run in WWE.
However, Rollins explained where “God” came from, explaining that he chose The Almighty’s name as an in-ring persona thanks to having a big personality in his youth.
Seth Rollins was known for having an ego when he was younger
Seth Rollins was a guest on a 2023 episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals. During the conversation, host Josh Scherer asked about Rollins’s various wrestling names over the years. Rollins said he needed a big character to match his big personality and thought you couldn’t go any higher than God.
“I developed a bit of a reputation for having an ego. A little bit, for being full of myself. My brother is three years older than me and he is the opposite of me in that regard. He was very humble, very quiet, a well-mannered, selfless human being. Still is to this day. I was not that. I was the opposite of that, I was loud, I was boisterous, I was arrogant,” Seth Rollins explained.
“And so we’re talking—he identified these characteristics in me, probably from a very young age, from 5 or 6 years old. He was already honing in on this,” Rollins noted. “So by the time I was 14, I couldn’t be stopped. [laughs] I couldn’t be stopped. As I was developing a character based around these personality traits, I thought, ‘Well, what better moniker for someone that thinks they’re the best at everything?’ You can’t go any higher, so God was the name.”
