CM Punk has defended Tom Brady after the NFL legend stirred controversy with his recent comments about WWE.
Speaking on ESPN’s Unsportsmanlike, the World Heavyweight Champion addressed Brady’s take and downplayed the backlash. Punk suggested the remarks should not be viewed as an insult, even flipping the comparison back on football by pointing out similarities in how athletes dress.
“Yeah, Tom said WWE is cute. I don’t know why everyone’s got an attitude about that. Cute’s good, right? There are people who watch the NFL, where men wear tight tights,” Punk said. [WrestlingNews.co]
WWE Superstars react to Tom Brady’s comments
For those unaware, Brady referred to WWE as “cute” during a recent appearance on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast. The comment sparked backlash within the wrestling community, prompting several Superstars to respond.
Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre said he does not get annoyed by such remarks, noting they often stem from ignorance. Former NXT Champion Oba Femi challenged Brady to experience the physicality of wrestling firsthand before forming an opinion.
Fourteen-time World Champion Randy Orton joked that he would like to hit Brady with his iconic RKO. WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman and Tyler Breeze also weighed in on the controversy.
“What’s Tom Brady done?,” Heyman questioned. “He’s thrown a football across a field that was caught by Gronkowski. Gronkowski deserves the credit. Belichick and his girlfriend deserve the credit. But Tom Brady [gestures no].”
