CM Punk busted himself open at WWE Elimination Chamber.
The Straight Edge Superstar returned to his hometown of Chicago as the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion, facing the man he last met for the title in Northern Ireland, Finn Balor.
The match proved extremely physical, particularly for Punk, who suffered bloody cuts from Balor’s stiff offense. The champion even got kicked into the ringside barricade, causing it to collapse on impact.
Despite being spent, Punk executed an extremely creative counter on Balor during a top-rope attempt. As Balor went for the top-rope stomp, Punk placed his leg between his opponent’s legs, catching him with a Sharpshooter.
The closing sequence saw CM Punk repeatedly stomp Finn Balor in the face before finishing him with another Go To Sleep for the victory. After the match, both men shook hands to show mutual respect.
AJ Lee then arrived to celebrate Punk’s win. Earlier in the night, Lee herself had suffered a bloody mouth during her Women’s Intercontinental Championship match against Becky Lynch. Fans can catch up on the match outcome here.
