Paul Heyman has addressed the growing confusion surrounding Brock Lesnar’s WWE status following WrestleMania 42. He pushed back on a viral report that quickly made the rounds online.
The situation gained traction after a video surfaced, appearing to show Heyman dismissing retirement talk. Moreover, the timing of that clip has now become the real main event.
Paul Heyman clarifies Brock Lesnar comments after TMZ report
Taking to X, Heyman directly called out TMZ Sports for how the footage was presented.
“I want to congratulate @TMZ for the magnificent exclusive news regarding my comments on @BrockLesnar’s retirement,” Heyman wrote, before revealing the missing detail that changed the entire narrative.
TMZ shared the video the day before Lesnar’s WrestleMania match, but it went viral after the match was over. However, Heyman says that it was filmed two weeks ago when he was in New York for another appearance.
“Unfortunately, what’s left out… is that the video was shot in NYC after my @fox5ny appearance two weeks ago… Context is EVERYTHING!”
The clip, which included Heyman predicting another 15 years of dominance for Lesnar, was widely interpreted as a response to WrestleMania 42. However, Heyman made it clear the interview took place well before the event — turning what seemed like a post-match reaction into a pre-show soundbite.
That distinction matters, especially given what unfolded at Allegiant Stadium. Lesnar lost to Oba Femi in just under five minutes on Night Two. He then remained in the ring as fans chanted in appreciation. He removed his gloves and boots — a symbolic gesture long associated with retirement — and shared a moment with Heyman before exiting.
Despite the emotional scene, WWE has not officially confirmed Lesnar’s retirement. Triple H later noted the moment “certainly seemed that way,” but also confirmed there was no backstage discussion immediately after.
Heyman’s closing line added a touch of levity to the correction. “P.S. @HarveyLevinTMZ, I still love you,” he wrote — proving that while the report may have taken a bump, the relationship didn’t.
For now, Lesnar’s future remains up in the air — and like any good storyline, the truth may still be waiting for its final reveal.
