TNA’s Trey Miguel Finished Match With Broken Kneecap Because His Dad Was Watching

Trey Miguel has revealed how he managed to finish his TNA Rebellion match despite a major setback.

Appearing on iHeart Radio’s Battleground Podcast, the former TNA International Champion detailed the emotional and physical toll of continuing the bout after injuring his patella during a spot involving the ring steps.

Recalling the moment the injury occurred, Miguel explained how ringside doctor Asa checked on him immediately after the impact.

“Oh man, I tell you what. So, the moment I was on that ground when, after I hit the stairs and I was laying on the floor, I look over to Asa, who’s our ringside doctor, and he’s giving me the thumbs up and the thumbs down, waiting for my reply,” Miguel said.

He also revealed that his father was in the crowd that night, which played a major role in his decision to continue.

“And my father was in the crowd. And my dad always gives me this, ‘Oh, I hate watching you wrestle. I can’t tell when you’re really hurt or when you’re.’ And I just thought about how bad it would freak him out if I called that match right there,” he added.

Miguel noted that the match was already deep into a ten-count situation when he made the call to continue.

“So I gave Asa the thumbs up. And by the time I got in the ring, I was like, ‘Oh man, this hurts.’ And for a second, there was no adrenaline. That was like an adrenaline dump. I had nothing in me at that point. I’m just trying to stay off my knee and get through these movements as best as possible,” he said.

Trey Miguel says an adrenaline shift changed everything

Miguel explained that the turning point came during a key high-impact moment in the match when Mustafa Ali went for a 450 splash, allowing him to counter with a cutter.

“But the moment that Mustafa Ali went for that 450 and I caught him in the cutter, the reaction that that got from the crowd pulled me to my feet,” Miguel said. “And then the adrenaline was back, and then I could run and do the power slide DDT, and then send him in for another Meteora—which probably was the worst combination of things I could have possibly done for my knee.”

Despite the injury, Miguel managed to finish the match, ultimately dropping the championship to Mustafa Ali.

Trey Miguel’s comments come amid recent updates from TNA Wrestling confirming his re-signing with the company. The announcement followed earlier reports suggesting he would require a recovery period of approximately six to eight weeks due to the patella injury sustained at Rebellion. In late April, Miguel shared an update and said he was on track to resume in-ring training in mid-June.

Miguel returned to TNA earlier this year after being released by AEW in January over resurfaced controversial social media comments, for which he apologized.
