CM Punk Says He Gained 20 Pounds, Teases Move to WWE SmackDown

CM Punk says he has gained 20 pounds recently and teases a move to SmackDown when he returns to WWE.

Former World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has been absent from WWE television since his segment with Cody Rhodes on RAW after WrestleMania 42 on April 20. However, he dropped a hint at a recent MMA event, teasing an imminent return.

CM Punk provided commentary Friday night at the Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC 156) event at the Hard Rock Casino in Rockford, Illinois. He has been a part-time color commentator for the promotion since 2018. His fellow announcers were promoting an upcoming show and asked the WWE star if he would be there, pointing out that it won’t be in Chicago.

However, after confirming it would take place on a Friday, Punk replied that he won’t be available. He also noted that the only news he has to share is that he has gained 20 pounds. It’s unclear if he was serious about the specific weight gain, as he may have been referring to all the recent posts about him getting jacked at the gym during his time away from WWE.

“Is that a Friday? I don’t know if I can make it.” When asked if he had any news to share, Punk jokingly said, “I don’t really have a lot of news. I gained 20 pounds recently. It’s not good weight. The suit’s a little tight, ladies and gentlemen.”

Since WWE SmackDown takes place on Fridays, his comments made fans believe Punk could return to the blue brand in the coming days.

Reports noted that WWE is planning to move CM Punk to SmackDown

F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer recently reported that WWE is planning to move CM Punk to SmackDown when he returns and start a feud with Cody Rhodes. He noted that the promotion is planning the move as a balancing measure since RAW has more star power.

WWE is advertising CM Punk for the July 6 episode of RAW in Chicago. Meltzer noted that, despite the SmackDown plans, Punk’s return in Chicago makes more sense. He also later provided an update, saying the Straight Edge Superstar is “pushing very hard” to return at the event.
