Cody Rhodes recently revealed WWE’s producers use some hilarious sports metaphors when discussing crowd attitudes.
It’s no secret that WWE is all about the crowd size. Every show, they are quick to mention a sell out crowd, and those crowds always vary in sentiment. According to Rhodes, he and the producers backstage have come up with a funny way to figure out how hostile a crowd is.
“We now have fully, jokingly, with my character on television, the producers backstage will tell me, ‘Hey, it’s an away game…’ You never know, but we knew a lot of times, going into Germany, going into different [places], ‘Hey, it’s an away game,’ and I loved it,” Rhodes said on the latest episode of his What Do You Wanna Talk About podcast (via Wrestling Inc.). “I absolutely thrived off it… And it was a different vibe. It was a different feeling.”
This past week at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, he definitely had a “home game” crowd. However, at SummerSlam, he might be facing an away crowd. He’ll be going up against CM Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship, and while Rhodes is one of WWE’s most popular stars, Punk might be one of the few who can sway a crowd more.
