Big Injury, Mark Cuban/UFC, Big City Bans MMA, More



Not all of the news out of last nightâs UFC Fight Night was good for its competitors. Port St. Lucie, Floridaâs Din Thomas, 30, injured his knee in the main event while attempting to shoot in on opponent Ken Florian. The American Top Team lightweight was taken to a local hospital for an MRI and has had his leg placed in a brace while he awaits results, said an ATT rep this morning. Initial diagnosis points to a torn MCL and/or ACL and the need for surgery.

Mark Cuban was in attendance during UFC Fight Night 11 last night. Cuban and UFC president Dana White spoke for a few minutes which from all accounts was a very pleasant conversation.

The rumored Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir match for December is unlikely according to sources. UFC wanted Nogueira for the Newark, NJ show in November. Several sites jumped the gun on this one.

It was announced today that the Vancuover Athletic Commission will no longer sanction MMA matches.

The following is an excerpt from an article in the Orangeville Citizen about Royce Gracie: While he used to fight professionally every few months, Mr. Gracie now fights once a year. “I’m getting to old for this,” he says while laughing. But he keeps busy with seminars. His next fight will likely be in June or July of 2008, he says, although he’s not sure whether the fight will be with the UFC or K-1 Pride fighting.
