Kenny Omega reacted to a recent report that he’s taking time off from AEW… by confirming he’s taking time off from AEW.
On Thursday, Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that Kenny Omega was taking time off and would not compete at AEW All Out. However, the outlet noted that Omega’s absence had been planned for months. This absence includes a planned trip to Japan, “in addition to appointments tied to his illnesses and injuries.” The outlet also said that Omega confirmed he has been wrestling through pain, but that’s been a normal occurrence for him, and he “pretty well knows it will be moving forward.”
AEW sources told Fightful that Wednesday night’s angle was designed to write Omega off of television. Not only would it explain his absence, but it would also put Kyle Fletcher, the current TNT Champion, over in a big way. Unless those plans change, fans should not expect him to be at AEW All Out on September 20.
Omega has since reacted and basically confirmed the details of the original report.
“Time off? Specialized hospital visits and work that had been planned for a year, but sure, let’s bait the trolls,” Omega wrote on Twitter/X. “I’m just trying to improve what I can and represent the company in a positive way while not performing. Don’t be misleading with headlines, please and thank you.”
It’s unclear if Omega took exception to the abrupt version of the Tweet (seen below). However, it’s worth noting that the Fightful report was straightforward and not misleading.
Omega said specialized hospital visits (“appointments tied to his illnesses and injuries”) and work that had been planned for a year (a planned trip to Japan) would contribute to his absence, confirming the details of the report.

What happened to Kenny Omega on AEW Dynamite?
Kenny Omega appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Dynamite. There, he teamed with Hangman Page and JetSpeed against the Young Bucks, Kyle Fletcher, and Josh Alexander. Fletcher’s team won the match and participated in a post-match beatdown. The closing moments of the show saw Fletcher hit Hangman with a Sheerdrop brainbuster on a chair.
Fletcher then hit a Sheerdrop on Omega through a table as Dynamite went off the air. Many expected it to start a feud between Fletcher and Omega. However, that does not appear to be the case yet… at least not as far as All Out is concerned.
AEW confirmed a new start time for All Out this week. The company also confirmed the event will be the first AEW PPV to air live on HBO Max.
