Shinsuke Nakamura has opened up about the possibility of facing John Cena in his final WWE match.
Nakamura is one of sixteen WWE Superstars scheduled to take part in The Last Time Is Now Tournament, which kicks off on RAW tonight. The winner of the tournament will face John Cena in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
In the lead-up to tonight’s RAW, WWE released a video on social media featuring opening-round participants — Sheamus, Rusev, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Damian Priest. Here’s what Nakamura had to say:
“It would be a super honor. Some of our generation decided to step away from the ring, no-one can escape from the flow of time. But if his path and mine should cross once again, I believe it would be a gift. Destiny.” [H/T WrestleTalk]
Shinsuke Nakamura and John Cena have only met once in singles competition. The match took place on the August 1, 2017, episode of SmackDown. During the bout, Nakamura accidentally dropped Cena on his head, causing controversy backstage.
