R-R-R-Royce Keys? Is that you?
Powerhouse Hobbs is rumored to be on his way to WWE. The former AEW star’s contract recently expired, and it’s believed that he will be signing with WWE. According to Fightful (via Fightful Select), there are also WWE sources who believe Hobbs already signed. However, the report said there is still no confirmation that Hobbs has actually signed a contract yet.
WWE recently applied to trademark the name “Royce Keys” on January 20. Based on the timing of the application and reports about Hobbs’ future, fans have naturally speculated that Royce Keys is Powerhouse Hobbs’ new name in WWE.
Some were critical of WWE taking away a great name like “Powerhouse Hobbs.” Others noted that there might be some meaning behind it.
“Maybe Royce Keys is personal to him in that same way as it was for Ricky and Mariah,” one fan wrote on Twitter/X.
Could it be Hobbs’ new name? Sure, it could be, but there are no credible reports yet that suggest it’s a guarantee. As of now, it’s just an online rumor.
WWE has trademarked other names that didn’t go to the wrestler that fans suspected
For example, fans speculated that “JC Mateo” could be for a new wrestler in EVOLVE or NXT, but it ultimately became Jeff Cobb’s name the week after he debuted. There was also a rumor that PJ Vasa was the new name of a current WWE star. However, that name ultimately went to NXT star Penina Tuilaepa. Heck, some fans even thought “Osiris Griffin” was going to be Ricky Starks’ new name. That was of course wrong, as he’s now known as Ricky Saints.
In addition, others have speculated that Royce Keys could be meant for New Japan Pro-Wrestling star EVIL, or for The IIconics’ Billie Kay and Peyton Royce.
Powerhouse Hobbs might be the most popular theory right now, but it’s just that: a theory. So, before you get hyped up on a name that might or might not happen, remember that this is all speculation at this point.
