Sami Callihan’s departure from TNA Wrestling continues to raise questions, with a new report suggesting that several members of the roster had been advocating for him to receive a larger backstage role before his exit from the company.
The former TNA World Champion confirmed earlier that he had parted ways with the promotion after what he believed would be a conversation about a potential promotion.
Instead, the call delivered very different news, adding another twist to an already eventful period behind the curtain.
Backstage support for Sami Callihan’s creative involvement
According to Fightful Select, multiple members of both TNA’s roster and staff had pushed for months to have Callihan added to the company’s creative team.
The report noted that Callihan had earned significant respect in his backstage positions as an agent and producer. Sources described him as well-liked throughout the organization, with several wrestlers believing he could contribute creatively as TNA continued to evolve its product.
Callihan himself revealed that he expected a call regarding a creative position before learning his tenure with the company had ended.
“Thought I was getting called today to be offered a position in creative… nope. I’ve parted ways with TNA. Oh well… onward to the next adventure,” he wrote on social media.
After retiring from active in-ring competition following his Baltimore Street Fight loss to Mike Santana last August, Callihan became increasingly involved behind the scenes. Beyond producing matches and working as an agent, he reportedly contributed to marketing initiatives and played a major role in TNA’s merchandise operation.
Fightful Select reported that Callihan designed and produced much of the company’s merchandise over the past year, extending his influence far beyond what fans saw on television.
The news comes during a period of significant change for TNA. Tommy Dreamer recently exited his creative role, while several talents, including Steve Maclin, Tessa Blanchard, and Myla Grace, have also departed the promotion.
Although his TNA chapter has closed, Callihan remains active in professional wrestling through Pro Wrestling Revolver. For now, his unexpected exit continues to be one of the industry’s most talked-about backstage developments.
