Sami Callihan has officially confirmed his departure from TNA Wrestling, becoming the latest notable name to exit the company during a period of significant backstage changes.
The news emerged on the same day TNA announced a workforce reduction. Interestingly, Callihan’s account of how he learned the news added an unexpected twist.
The former TNA World Champion revealed that he believed he was receiving a call about a potential promotion within the company. Instead, the conversation led in a very different direction.
Sami Callihan reveals surprise behind TNA departure
After reports surfaced that Callihan was leaving TNA, the veteran confirmed the news himself on social media.
“Thought I was getting called today to be offered a position in creative… nope. I’ve parted ways with TNA. Oh well… onward to the next adventure,” Callihan wrote on X. He also encouraged fans to follow his independent promotion, Wrestling REVOLVER.
The revelation was particularly notable because Callihan had already transitioned into a backstage role with TNA. After retiring from in-ring competition following a Baltimore Street Fight loss to Mike Santana at TNA Emergence last August, he remained with the company as a producer.
According to PWInsider, word had already begun circulating that Callihan was set to leave the promotion. His confirmation quickly put an end to any speculation and added another chapter to an increasingly busy week behind the scenes.
Callihan’s exit comes amid broader changes within TNA. Earlier in the day, Tommy Dreamer announced his departure from his role as the company’s head of creative. Reports have also linked recent exits to Tessa Blanchard, Steve Maclin, Dani Luna, and Myla Grace.
For wrestling fans, the timing is hard to ignore. With Slammiversary on the horizon, TNA appears to be undergoing a significant reshuffle behind the curtain while continuing preparations for one of its biggest events of the year.
As for Callihan, the former world champion made it clear he’s already looking ahead to his next chapter. The Death Machine may be leaving TNA, but it doesn’t appear he’s slowing down anytime soon.
